UP sweeps inaugural UAAP Ballroom Formation Competition

When it comes to any dance floor, University of the Philippines brings out excellence.

And they proved it once more as the University of the Philippines Ballroom Formation Team claimed both the Latin American and Standard categories of the inaugural UAAP Ballroom Formation Dance Competition, Saturday afternoon at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion Arena, España, Manila.

Seven universities competed in two categories: the Latin American and Standard. Latin American category consisted of chacha, rumba, and jive.

On the other hand, the Standard division is made up of waltz, tango, and quickstep.

The Maroons topped the other six competing teams in the Latin American category with a score of 92.48 percent.

Hosts University of Santo Tomas Sinag Ballroom Dance Company placed at close second with 91.66 percent.

University of the East’s Warrior Dancesport Team rounded up the podium with 84.42 percent.

UP BFT also finished as champions in the Standard category getting a huge 94.3% mark from the panel of adjudicators, besting the three teams that competed.

UST took runner-up honors with 92.1 percent.

While the De La Salle University Ballroom Blitz notched 87 percent.

The Ballroom Formation Competition is part of the opening activities of UAAP Season LXXIX.
